Note | Frank Yeager served in the Civil War as a member of Co. I, 138th Illinois Volunteers. Much is made of his Civil War service in family lore: he lied about his age to volunteer, he was one of the last surviving CW veterans in Washington state, etc. However, his service wasn't difficult by war standards. He was in a hundred day unit. He saw no real combat. |
Note | I've scanned and OCR'd a long newspaper article about Patterson and Yeager family history which includes tales of the ramily move from Illinois to Kansas in 1874. It's posted on my blog in two parts:

Note | A note in the Centralia Daily Chronicle's "Yesteryears" column from June 9, 1969 reads:
June 9, 1944
Lewis County's only surviving Civil War veteran, Francis M. Yeager, a Centralian for more than 40 years, will celebrate his 97th birthday this weekend, the milestone finding him as hale and hearty as ever, but inclined to leave his annual woodsplitting and garden chores to someone else. |
