Note
Reference: 12610 A William Amoss Junior along with William McComas were witnesses to a 1797 Friends marriage in Harford Co, MD of Samuel McConnell and Frances Malsby. See FTM library Malsby/Maltsby Family P.147. After the marriage record attested to the children of Samuel and Frances are listed and signing as a witness after their names and dates of birth is Hannah Amoss (Amass). There is an Amos/Amoss Quaker connection in MD. In going thru some of my research, I came across the following info. regarding William Amos of Goochland Co., Va. In Deed Bk 6,page 68 William Amos(s) of Goochland Co sold some property and indicates that it was a part of the property of his father Valentine. Also that Lucy relinquished her right of dower.( Lucy wife of William) Also he and wife Lucy buy land and sells land in 1764 in same co., and indicates that he is from Albemarle Co.If Willam was born in 1736 (not 1735 noted in my post earlier today) he would have been 15 years old in 1751 and 28 in 1764. The Parrish Records of St. Peters Parrish in New Kent Co., Va. indicate that William Amos, son of Valentine was born October 25, 1726. Bob Amos Additional information from Bob Amos rec'd via email on 24 Jan 2000 in reply to an earlier email from JBR. <dotbobby@smart.net> " ....Yes, the early Amos's spelled their surname with two ss. William and Lucy Amos in 1793 made a gift of slaves to their children of Franklin Co,VA listing the children as, Lucy Barnard, Molly, John Moody, Elizabeth and Martin Amos. Are those names familiar to you? I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the above as it came from another researcher. I only knew of William and Lucy in Goochland and New Kent Cos. (VA). I would appreciate any records or data that you have relative to Martin Amoss." JBR note: I have found the Amos name in Franklin/Bedford Co, VA before when doing research on my other lines there. It may be the changing county boundaries in VA the moved rather than the Amos family. In any case Franklin Bedford Cos are also in 'southside' or southwest VA and close enough to Patrick and Goochland. Need to check out county formation and dates. Also need to go back and get copies of Franklin/Bedford Co, VA mentions/records of this and any other Amos families. Believe there was also an Amos will there. Note
It looks like WCA was a Revolutionary War veteran. One tree lists U.S., Revolutionary War Rolls, 1775-1783. Will Amos, Virginia, Continental Troops, rank of private. I haven't found specifics.
